Welcome New District Leadership Teams,
The beginning of a new Toastmasters year is a busy time. There are lots of year-end details to wrap up and new events to plan. It is an important time to plan for the coming year.
As a past district leader, I offer these tips for starting off the new year successfully. First, put your District Success Plan together now. It will help guide your efforts throughout the year. Which one or two Critical Success Factors are the most critical for your district? Focus on those. Second, get busy taking action now. Focus actions now on those most critical success factors. Third, break down the Critical Success Factors into manageable chunks. For example, the club goal can seem large when we look at the total number of clubs needed. Instead, consider the plan to get that first club in. How soon can your team charter that first club. Get that first club chartered and celebrate an early win. It will do wonders for your team and will build momentum for the clubs to follow.
As a leaderhip team, you have key resources available to support your efforts throughout the coming year. Cliff Heinsch will be the Region Advisor Marketing for the coming year. If you have not already done so, complete the new district leadership e-learning modules that became available on July 1. Toastmasters will ask you to touch bases with each other to collaborate on "homework assignments" to be assigned prior to the district leader training at the International Convention in Palm Desert.
This is an exciting time full of possibilities. I encourage you to visualize being on stage at Bally's in Las Vegas. What does it look like to you? Can you feel the excitement? Are you feeling the satisfaction of successfully meeting your goals over the past year? Now, step back into the present. As Captain Jean Luc Picard often said, "Make It So!"
Wishing you the best in the coming year,
Theo W. Black, International Director
District Leaders,
Congratulations those districts that made the distinguished status this year. To all district teams I offer congratulations and thank you for taking on a role of leadership in your district. You have made a great contribution to the organization and your district. You have affected the lives of many people for the better. You have also affected your life for the better. I know that many of you took on the roe of leadership to give back to the organization that has helped you in many ways. There is nothing wrong with that sentiment. But, take a look at yourself, now, compared with who you were a year ago, or two years ago, or even three. Are you different? I’ll bet you are. Although it may not have been your intention, you have grown in your leadership position.
Thank you everyone for everything you have done this past year. Thank you for making these past two years a great time for myself. Good luck in your future endeavors in and outside of Toastmasters.
Lyle Appleyard, International Director
